Quote for July 2nd
Hope everyone had a Happy Canada Day. Here is my next piece of useless knowledge:-
AS HAPPY AS A SANDBOY
This means to be very happy or in high spirits. It is a traditional expression from the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, when sandboys or sandmen drove their donkeys through the streets sellig bags of sand taken from beached. The sand was used by householders for their gardens, by builders, and by publicans for sanding their floors.
The merriness of the sandboys was probably due, in some part, to the temptation of spending their takings in the hostelries to which they delivered the sand.
HOW VERY TRUE THIS IS
"It's good to have money and the things that money can buy, but it's good, to check up once in a while and make sure you haven't lost the things that money can't buy. George Horace Lorimer.
