All About The Area
Almaguin Highlands Region in Ontario covers approximately 8,000 square kilometres (3,100 sq miles. It reaches northwards from the District of Muskoka to the city of North Bay. Originally derived from the words, Algonquin and Magnetawan, Almaguin is presently used to describe the marketing region of East Parry Sound.
In the east, the Highlands border on Algonquin Park. To the west is the shoreline of near the 'Thousand Islands' and the city of Parry Sound.
The region includes 18 municipalities such as Novar, Callander, Whitestone and Kearney. It is part of the Canadian Shield geological formation, and includes mixed woodlands, hills and crags, as well as hundreds of lakes and rivers. Almaguin tourism attractions include hunting, fishing and other outdoor activities.
